Offering this unfinished and modified 1959 Cushman Model 725 Road King step-thru motorscooter project. This scooter was displayed assembled at the 1992 Cushman Nationals in Springfield, Missouri (see last photo showing this display), but after I got it home, I didn't have enough shop space to park it, so I disassembled it for storage. And now I don't have enough time to finish it, so I am offering it for sale.
This is being offered to you by the documented 1990 inventor of the "Baby Harley" -- the Cushman Silver Eagle with a V-twin engine – Rom’s Reworks in Butler, MO.
As the photos show, this Road King chassis has been correctly modified to accept the new Kohler M18 opposed-twin engine with vibration-isolated mounting for smooth running, and Comet golf-cart style variable-speed pulley drive. The four anti-vibration mounts on the engine-mount sub-rails are the same OEM P/N 810150 vibration isolators used on the original Road Kings. This engine mount adds 10-1/2" to the wheelbase and overall length. The chassis includes a front fender on the rear for a symmetrical style, and also includes an extra front fender, as I had planned on adding a sidecar when it was finished.
Also included is a front brake, the speedometer shown on the dashboard, and three pair of unpainted 12" plain-steel wheels (again, a wheel for the sidecar). These wheels were produced by "Pete" Peterson of Springfield, Missouri, the man who first designed and offered these to Cushman owners (pre-Carpenter) with the correct Cushman lug-bolt pattern. They are made to accept the 4.00x12 motorcycle tires.
Everything related to this scooter project and shown in the pictures is included – front fork, front shield, footpad and nameplate, headlight, etc. It does not have some of the cables and linkages; a taillight and wiring harness will need to be constructed; and a "Tubular Body" frame to mount the seat and the battery will need to be fabricated. It wouldn't hurt to check the brakes and repack the wheel bearings, as well.
The engine is a new electric-start Kohler Model M18, Spec 24504, Serial 1925611056. It includes the chrome wire air-intake shield and exhaust elbows. It has 1/2-hour of prototypical run time, and still includes the full factory warranty.
The Comet variable-pulley drive system consists of the heavy-duty Model 94C drive pulley and a Model 100D driven pulley. I am including two drive belts, as I have never had the drive system completed, so I’m not sure which belt will be the correct one.
Has clear title.
Due to eCrater's Listing requirements, a shipping weight is listed, but I would prefer the Buyer pick it up and pay at time of pick-up.
Listed as non-taxable from me, but sales tax may be required in your state when you title it.
